Club

All students interested in teaching as a profession are welcome to join. The club works on service projects with elementary and secondary school faculty, provides faculty mentors, and encourages candid discussion and direction for teaching in a wide variety of levels and curriculum areas.

Our Future Teachers of America Club is back from dormancy, thanks to many energetic and committed students. We launched into this Fall 2008 semester with excitement.

First, we participated in Mustang Weekend’s Float Competition and won first place! Take a moment to view the pictures of this awesome event where we featured the Village of Morrisville’s Engine House, a haunted historical site! With creative engines firing, one of our club’s officers even designed our current and outstanding shirt design. We sported our new shirts that morning and looked cool! Our “bakers” in residence baked up some goodies to sell at this event. Yes, we do bake sales!

In addition to these milestones, we participated in the “Into the Streets” event which our AmeriCorps/VISTA representative, Emily Casey, coordinated and successfully executed as a campus-wide and surrounding community event. We volunteered our time and talent to this all-day event. We will be doing the same this coming semester with “Seven Days of Making a Difference,” April 19 to 25. Some activities will focus on Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 24) events.

Next, at our December meeting, we designed tote bags that will advertise our FTA Club across campus. What a clever idea! Thanks to one of our future Art teachers! We enjoyed complimentary pizza, soda, a movie … all while working on creating artistic or eye-catching totes. A truly enjoyable evening! Club members expressed a desire to have more meetings like this. We aim to please!

We support every TET speaking event on campus. During this past semester, we had three wonderful and talented teachers present to the campus. One speaker is going to have her school’s FTA join us for some activities and meetings! Some FTA members were invited to join us at our special dinners we hosted at The Copper Turret before each event. We gratefully acknowledge that dinner was paid for by The Sheila Johnson Foundation. To see who attended, please visit the Teacher Education Transfer website link to see pictures and to read what each presented.

We are fundraising for our club by selling stress apple key chains and our shirts. More fundraising ideas will certainly be active this spring!

We encourage all to join as this is a club for anyone interested in education and issues surrounding our educational system. With your input, we will continue to make this club an exciting and well-recognized part of our campus at Morrisville! Come join us!
